Left Wrist Mark! Left Wrist!

Alright, so I just watched the pilot episode for Flash Forward. It's good. Great in fact. I guess this show is perfect for those who never really caught onto the whole Lost phenomenon too--it seems like it came from the same writers. Anyway, the graphics were amazing, the story line enticing but I did have one issue with the show. And it had to do with that damned "friendship bracelet."

Rewinding. In the 2 minutes the whole world was unconscious, they all see their futures six months from now. In Mark's vision (the protagonist)he wears a friendship bracelet on his right wrist. And with overworked montages and excessive jump cuts back to the bracelet, you can tell the writers are giving you a super huge wink on what to focus on. Anyway, there's a scene at the end of the show, where in real-time, his daughter gives him that dreaded friendship bracelet. Mark has a freak out moment, that his future vision is becoming more of a reality, and cautiously accepts the bracelet from his daughter.

Yea, it would've been a great ending to the pilot, only, WHY DIDNT MARK AT LEAST TRY AND DODGE HIS DESTINY BY KINDLY ASKING HIS DAUGHTER TO PUT IN ON THE LEFT WRIST INSTEAD? That would've made for a much more exciting storyline. He looks straight into the camera w/ one eyebrow raised and a little smirk on his face and says, "Honey, why don't we put it on the left wrist..." END. Wouldn't' that be funny if it ended like that, and that was the series? A one-episode series-- but a powerful one. With the economy in the state it is, maybe we need more one-episode tv series.Cheap, and to the point. Maybe, the friendship bracelet represents our own destinies.

This could've been an extremely stupid storyline glitch, or an extremely deep self-reflective message for viewers. Either way, it's gotten me hooked.

Update: Someone else in this world has blogged about this same issue as well!
The "Marci Rating System" blog reads:
"...LEFT WRIST, MARK! LEFT WRIST!!! For crying out loud, it’s not rocket science! Mark’s a recovering alcoholic who goes to AA meetings — he should be well-versed in the power of symbolism and habit. Put the bracelet on your left wrist, and it’s a reminder every time you see it that you *can* change things; you *do* have choices. Don’t want your vision to come true? LEFT WRIST!

What did he do? Right wrist. Of course. ::sigh:: "

Maybe the producers should think about renaming the show to "Friendship Bracelet." Seems to be the main topic of discussion anyway, at least in me and Marci's world.
